Ondansetron
Indications/Uses
Management of nausea & vomiting induced by cytotoxic chemo- & radiotherapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Highly emetogenic chemotherapy Initially 8 mg slow IV or 15-min infusion immediately before chemotherapy, followed by further infusion of 1 mg/hr for up to 24 hr or 2 doses of 8 mg slow IV or 15-min infusion 4 hr apart. Either regimen is then followed by 8 mg orally every 8 hr up to 5 days. Less emetogenic chemotherapy 8 mg slow IV or 15 min infusion immediately before chemotherapy or 8 mg orally 1-2 hr before chemotherapy, followed by 8 mg orally 8 hrly up to 5 days. Childn >4 yr 5 mg/m2 IV over 15 min immediately before chemotherapy, followed by 4 mg orally 8 hrly up to 5 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Moderate or severe liver impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, sensation of flushing or warmth in the head & epigastrium; constipation.
