Orlistat
Indications/Uses
In conjunction w/ a mildly hypocaloric diet for the treatment of obese patients w/ BMI ≥28 kg/m2 w/ associated risk factors.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 120 mg.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take during or w/in 1 hr after meals. If meal is missed or contains no fat, the dose may be omitted.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ chronic malabsorption syndrome, cholestasis. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Oily spotting, flatus w/ discharge, fecal urgency, fatty/oily stool, increased defecation, faecal incontinence.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced bioavailability & lipid-lowering effect of pravastin. Decreased absorption of vit D, E & β-carotene. Concomitant use w/ fibrate, acarbose, biguanide or anorectic agents. Oral hypoglycemics.
