Metoclopramide HCl
Indications/Uses
Treatment of post-op drug-induced nausea & vomiting. Symptomatic relief of acute & chronic gastroparesis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Caplet Adult 1 caplet 3 times daily. Adolescents & childn >6 yr Max: 0.5 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses. Syr Adult 5 mL 3 times daily. Adolescents & childn >6 yr Max: 0.5 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take ½ hr before meals & at bedtime.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. GI bleeding, mechanical obstruction or perforation. Epilepsy. Pheochromocytoma.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. May impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. Patients w/ kidney disorders. Pregnancy, lactation. In childn & elderly, doses should be reduced as it may increase the risk of extrapyramidal symptoms.
Adverse Reactions
High dose: Dizziness, disorientation, extrapyramidal reaction, muscle hypertonia, irritability, agitation, nervous, fatigue, constipation, diarrhea.
Drug Interactions
CNS depressants, haloperidol, phenothiazine, anticholinergic agents, narcotic analgesic, paracetamol, tetracycline, levodopa, ethanol, cyclosporine, digoxin.
