Tranexamic acid
Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment of hemorrhage & risk of hemorrhage related to increasing fibrinolysis or fibrinogenolysis eg, prostatectomy, bladder surgery, menorrhagia, epistaxis, cervix conisation, traumatic hyphema, hereditary angioneurotic edema, tooth extraction in patients w/ hemophilia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Local fibrinolysis 15-25 mg/kg 2-3 times daily. Prostatectomy Inj dosage should be administered pre- or post-op then followed by 2 caplet 4 times daily. Menorrhagia 2-3 caplet 3-4 times daily. Epistaxis 2 caplet 3 times daily for 7 days. Cervical conization 3 caplet 3 times daily. Traumatic hyphema 2-3 caplet 3 times daily. Tooth extraction in patient w/ hemophilia 2-3 caplet 8 hrly. Hereditary angioneurotic edema 2-3 caplet 2-3 times daily for several days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
History of thromboembolism, subarachnoid hemorrhage, active intravascular coagulation, color blindness.
Special Precautions
Hematuria (especially in hemophilia). Ocular exam & LFT should be done in long-term treatment in patient w/ hereditary angioneuretic edema. Predisposition of thrombosis. Kidney dysfunction, severe kidney insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, exanthema, headache.
Drug Interactions
Hemostatic drugs, estrogen, thrombolytics.
