Mometasone furoate
Indications/Uses
Symptoms of seasonal or perennial rhinitis, especially in moderate to severe persistent allergy in adult, adolescents & childn between 2 & 11 yr. Nasal polyps in adult ≥18 yr. Symptoms associated w/ mild to moderate uncomplicated acute rhinosinusitis in adult & childn ≥12 yr where signs or symptoms of bacterial infection are not present.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Seasonal allergic or perennial rhinitis Adult & childn ≥12 yr 2 sprays (50 mcg/spray) in each nostril once daily (total dose: 200 mcg), 2-11 yr 1 spray (50 mcg/spray) in each nostril once daily (total dose: 100 mcg). Nasal polyposis Adult & adolescents ≥18 yr 2 sprays (50 mcg/spray) in each nostril twice daily (total daily dose: 400 mcg). Mild to moderate uncomplicated acute rhinosinusitis 2 actuations (50 mcg/actuation) in each nostril twice daily (total daily dose: 400 mcg).
Contraindications
Untreated localized infection involving the nasal mucosa. Patients who have experienced recent nasal surgery or trauma. Localized fungal infection of the nose or pharynx.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ active or quiescent tuberculous infections, untreated fungal, bacterial, systemic viral infections or ocular herpes simplex; immunosuppressed patients; pregnant women, nursing mothers or women of childbearing age.
Adverse Reactions
Frank bleeding, blood-tinged mucus, & blood flecks, pharyngitis, nasal burning, nasal irritation.
