Acetylcysteine
Indications/Uses
Mucolytic therapy in acute & chronic bronchial & lung disease w/ thick mucous ie, acute & chronic brochitis, pulmonary emphysema, bronchitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap Adult & childn >14 yr 1 cap 2-3 times daily; childn 6-14 yr 1 cap twice daily. Inhalation soln Nebulise 1 amp, 1-2 times daily for 5-10 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ asthma should be monitored. Taken after meals in patients w/ a history of gastritis. Discontinue treatment if bronchospasm occurs.
Adverse Reactions
Cap: Ocassionally, itching, urticaria, cutaneous eruption, bronchospasm, tachycardia, reduced BP. Inhalation soln: Occasionally, mild GI disturbances eg, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, pyrosis. Bronchospasm, stomatitis, rhinorrhea, headache, tinnitus, urticaria, chills, fever, nasopharyngeal irritation & hemoptysis.
Drug Interactions
Antitussive, tetracycline HCl, glycerol trinitrate/nitroglycerine.
