Prevention & treatment of postpartum & post-abortion bleeding eg, uterine bleeding due to caesarean section, following separation of placenta, uterine atony, subinvolution of puerperal uterus, lochiometra. Management of 3rd stage of labor.
Dosage/Direction for Use
TabManagement of uterine involution 1 tab 3 times daily for 3-4 days. Puerperium bleeding, subinvolution, lochiometra 1 or 3 tab 3 times daily. AmpUterine bleeding due to caesarean section 1 mL IM or 0.5-1 mL IV or intramurally after delivery by extraction. Active management of 3rd stage of labor 0.1-0.2 mg IM following delivery of the head or anterior shoulder or immediately after delivery of the child. 3rd stage of labor w/ general anaesth 0.2 mg IV. Uterine atony 1 mL IM or 0.5-1 mL IV.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. 1st & 2nd stage of labor before crowning of the head. HTN, including preeclampsia & eclampsia. Primary & secondary uterine inertia.
Special Precautions
Administer IV slowly over 60 sec. In abnormal presentation, administer after delivery of the child & in multiple birth after delivery of the last child. Severe or persistent sepsis. Peripheral vascular disease. Ischaemic heart disease. Liver & renal dysfunction.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain after high dose administration. HTN after rapid IV inj. Skin disorders, headache, vertigo, tachycardia, bradycardia.
G02AB01 - methylergometrine ; Belongs to the class of ergot alkaloids. Used to induce abortion or augment labour and to minimize blood loss from the placental site.
