Per caplet Co-trimoxazole: Trimethoprim 80 mg, sulfamethoxazole 400 mg. Co-trimoxazole: Trimethoprim 40 mg, sulfamethoxazole 200 mg
Indications/Uses
Infections of resp & GI tract, otitis media, other infections caused by susceptible organisms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Caplet Adult & childn >12 yr 2 caplet. Childn 6-12 yr 1 caplet, 2-5 yr ½ caplet. To be taken twice daily for 10-14 days. Shigellosis Treatment for 5 days. Severe infections Daily dose may be increased to 1½ times standard dose & given in 3 divided doses. Susp Childn 6-12 yr 5-10 mL, 6 mth-6 yr 5 mL, 6 wk-6 mth 2.5 mL. To be taken twice daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides. Severe renal or hepatic impairment, blood dyscrasias. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ severe allergic conditions, bronchial asthma, impaired renal or hepatic function, folate or G6PD deficiencies. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, SJS & Lyell's syndrome. Rarely, hepatitis, blood disorders, pseudomembranous colitis.
Drug Interactions
PABA, procaine-type local anaesth, highly protein-bound drugs, MTX, warfarin, sulfonylureas.
