Ipratropium Br
Indications/Uses
As a bronchodilator to prevent & treat the symptoms of reversible COPD eg, bronchial asthma & chronic bronchitis w/ or w/o emphysema.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult (including elderly) & adolescence >14 yr 0.4-2 mL 3-4 times daily. Childn 6-14 yr 0.4-1 mL 3-4 times daily. All doses should be diluted w/ physiologic saline to a final vol of 3-4 mL & nebulized & inhaled until the soln is consumed.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to atropine or any other components of Midatro.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ narrow angle glaucoma, prostate hypertrophy, bladder neck obstruction. Patients w/ glaucoma tendency. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
GI motility disturbance (eg, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting), dry mouth, headache, increased heart beat, palpitation, supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, accommodation disorders, urinary retention, cough, local irritation, bronchospasms, allergic reactions (skin redness, angioedema of the tongue, lips & face, urticarial, laryngospasms, anaphylactic reactions.
Drug Interactions
May enhance bronchodilatation effect w/ β-adrenergic & xanthine. Increased the risk of acute glaucoma.
