Methylprednisolone
Indications/Uses
Endocrine disturbances, rheumatic, collagen disease, skin disorder, allergy, acute & chronic allergy related to the eyes & vision, hematological disturbances, neoplastic disorder, edematous, GIT disorder, resp disorder.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 4-48 mg daily. Clinical states including multiple sclerosis 160 mg daily for 1 wk followed by 64 mg daily for 1 mth.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Systemic fungal infections.
Special Precautions
Increased susceptibility to infection, allergic reaction, DM, psychiatry, ocular herpes simplex, seizure, hepatobiliary disorders. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Opportunistic infection, hypersensitivity reactions, leukocytosis, cushingoid, hypopituitarism, steroid withdrawal syndrome, metabolic & nutritional disorders, psychiatric disorders, increased ICP w/ papilloedema, convulsions, headache, vertigo, subcapsular cataracts, glaucoma, exophthalmos, thromboembolism, HTN, hypotension, GI disorders, musculoskeletal disturbance, dermatologic disturbance, menstrual irregularities.
Drug Interactions
Phenobarb, phenytoin, rifampicin, ketoconazole.
