Acetylcysteine
Indications/Uses
Mucolytic agent for acute & chronic bronchial disease, lung disease w/ thick mucous eg, in chronic, acute & acute recurrent bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, mucovicidosis, bronchiectasis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap Adult & childn >14 yr 1 cap 2-3 times dialy. Childn 6-14 yr 1 cap twice daily. Childn ≥6 yr Mucovicidosis 1 cap 3 times daily. Duration of therapy: 5-10 days. Effervescent tab Resp diseases 1 tab daily at night. Paracetamol intoxication 140 mg/kg orally immediately, 10 hr later give 70 mg/kg every 4 hr for 1-3 days. Uropathy from iso & cyclophosphamide 4 g daily in 4 divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Dissolve 1 tab in ½ glass of water (±200 mL of water).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Closely monitor patients w/ asthma. Discontinue if bronchospasm occur. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomatitis, dizziness, tinnitus. Itching, urticaria, cutaneous eruption (rash, exanthema), bronchospasm, palpitation, hypotension. Bronchospasm may occur.
Drug Interactions
Antitussive or other cough suppressants. Concomitant use w/ tetracycline should be administered separately w/ at least 2 hr interval. Nitroglycerine.
