Indications/Uses
Infections due to cloxacillin-sensitive organisms & penicillinase-producing pathogens.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap Adult 250-500 mg 6 hrly. Vial Adult IM: 250 mg 6 hrly. IV: 500 mg 4-6 hrly. Drip infusion: 500 mg-1 g 12 hrly. Intrapleural & IA: 500 mg daily. Childn 2-10 yr ½ adult dose, <2 yr ¼ adult dose.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins & cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Severely impaired renal function. Jaundiced neonates.
Adverse Reactions
Occasional rashes; GI upsets; anaphylaxis.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid impairs renal excretion. Decrease effects of anticoagulants.
