Clindamycin phosphate
Indications/Uses
Acne vulgaris.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply thinly on the affected area 1-2 times daily. Topical soln: Shake before use.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of regional enteritis or ulcerative colitis; colitis due to antibiotics.
Special Precautions
Discontinue treatment if hypersensitivity reactions or diarrhea occurs. Avoid contact w/ eyes, nose, mouth, or other mucous membranes. Atopic patients. Pregnancy, lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Burning, itching, dry, oily, peeling skin, erythema, skin irritation, folliculitis due to gm -ve bacteria, GI disturbances, abdominal pain.
Drug Interactions
Synergistic effects w/ ceftazidime, metronidazole, ciprofloxacin. Prevent bactericidal activity of aminoglycosides. Abrasive, cleansing agents, acne or any prep containing peeling agents eg, resorcinol, salicylic acid, sulfur. Topical alcohol prep eg, after-shave lotions, astringents, perfumed toiletries, shaving cream/lotion. May prolong effect of neuromuscular blocking agents. Antagonize effects w/ erythromycin.
