Ondansetron
Indications/Uses
Management of nausea & vomiting induced by chemotherapy & radiotherapy. Post-op nausea & vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Prevention of nausea & vomiting associated w/ emetogenic cancer chemotherapy Adult Administer 8 mg slow inj or infused 15 min prior to chemotherapy w/ infusion of 1 mg/hr during <24 hr; or 8 mg IV inj twice or infused for 15 min w/ 4-hr interval; or 8 mg orally twice daily for <5 days. Prevention of nausea & vomiting associated w/ less emetogenic cancer chemotherapy Administer 8 mg slow inj or infused 15 min prior to chemotherapy or 8 mg orally 1-2 hr prior to chemotherapy, followed by 8 mg orally twice daily for <5 days. Childn >4 yr IV 5 mg/m2 for 15 min before chemotherapy, followed by 4 mg orally every 12 hr for <5 days. Prevention of nausea & vomiting associated w/ radiotherapy 8 mg/12 hr, 1st dose given 1-2 hr prior to radiotherapy w/ subsequent doses 8 hrly after the 1st dose.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, headache, flushing, warm sensation in the head & epigastrium.
