Orlistat
Indications/Uses
In conjunction w/ mild hypocaloric diet for obese patients (BMI ≥28 kg/m2) w/ associated risk factors.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1 cap w/ each main meal (during or up to 1 hr after main meal).
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ chronic malabsorption syndrome, cholestasis. Lactation.
Special Precautions
May increase GI effects if taken w/ high fat diet (2,000 cal daily or ≥30% total daily cal from fat). May reduce absorption of fat-soluble vit (A, D, E, K). Hepatic &/or renal disorders. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <18 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Oily spotting, flatus w/ discharge, fecal urgency, fatty/oily stool, oily evacuation, increased defecation, liqd stools.
Drug Interactions
Increased bioavailability & lipid lowering effect of pravastatin. Reduced absorption of vit D, E, β-carotene. Concomitant use w/ fibrate, acarbose, biguanide or anorectic drugs.
