Cefepime HCl
Indications/Uses
Lower resp tract, skin & skin structure, intra-abdominal infections. Severe or complicated gynaecological infections, septicaemia, empiric treatment of febrile neutropenia, complicated upper & lower UTI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Mild to moderate UTI 500 mg-1 g IV or IM 12 hrly. Other UTI 1 g 12 hrly. Serious infections 2 g IV 12 hrly. Life-threatening or very serious infections 2 g IV 8 hrly. Duration of treatment: 7-10 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin, penicillin or other β-lactam antibiotics.
Special Precautions
Pseudomembranous colitis, superinfections. Prolonged treatment may cause overgrowth of non-susceptible microorganisms. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <13 yr.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, rash, pruritus, fever, chest pain, tachycardia, cough, sore throat, dyspnea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, paresthesia, anxiety, confusion, asthenia, sweating, vaginitis, edema, urticaria, SJS, erythema multiforme, TEN, toxic nephropathy, colitis, seizures, aplastic or haemolytic anemia, haemorrhage, liver or renal dysfunction.
Drug Interactions
Aminoglycosides, ampicillin, metronidazole, vancomycin, aminophylline.
