Omeprazole
Indications/Uses
Short-term therapy of duodenal ulcer unresponsive to H2-receptor antagonists. Short-term treatment of gastric ulcer. Erosive or ulcerative reflux oesophagitis. Long-term therapy of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 20-40 mg once daily. Duration of therapy: Duodenal ulcer 2-4 wk; gastric ulcer or erosive/ulcerative reflux oesophagitis 4-8 wk. Severe case: 40 mg once daily for 4 wk (duodenal ulcer) or 8 wk (gastric ulcer or erosive/ulcerative reflux oesophagitis). Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Initially 20-160 mg once daily. Doses >80 mg daily should be given in 2 divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately before a meal.
Special Precautions
Any possibility of gastric malignancy should be excluded before treatment. Monitoring of hypochlorhydria & hypergastrinemia in long-term treatment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Drug Interactions
Diazepam, warfarin, phenytoin, ketoconazole, ampicillin ester, Fe salt.
