Ciprofloxacin
Indications/Uses
UTI including prostatitis, urethritis & cervicitis gonorrhea, GI infections including typhoid fever, resp tract infections except pneumonia due to Strep, skin & soft tissue, bone & joint infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult UTI Moderate: 250 mg twice daily. Severe: 500 mg twice daily. Resp tract, bone, joint, skin & soft tissue infections Mild/moderate: 250-500 mg twice daily. Severe: 500-750 mg twice daily. Chronic prostatitis 500 mg twice daily. GI infections 500 mg twice daily. Acute gonorrhoea 250 mg as a single dose. Acute osteomyelitis Dose should not be <750 mg twice daily to achieve adequate conc.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to minimise GI discomfort. Do not take w/ antacids, Fe or dairy products.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolone derivatives. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use in case of pain, swelling, inflammation & rupture of tendons.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, flatulence, anorexia, dysphagia; dizziness, headache, fatigue, insomnia, agitation, tremors.
Drug Interactions
Antacids, theophylline, cyclosporine, probenecid, oral anticoagulants, metoclopramide.
