Levodopa 100 mg, benserazide 25 mg
Indications/Uses
All types of Parkinson's syndrome w/ fluctuation, except drug-induced parkinsonism; control of nocturnal symptoms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially ½ tab 3-4 times daily then increase in increments of 1 tab once or twice wkly according to response. Elderly Initially ½ tab 1-2 times daily then increase by ½ tab every 3rd or 4th day after. Advanced disease stage Initially 1 tab 3 times daily. Maintenance: 400-800 mg in divided doses.
Contraindications
Narrow-angle glaucoma, psychosis; endocrine, renal, hepatic, pulmonary & CV disorders; osteomalacia, history of peptic ulceration. Patients w/ suspicious undiagnosed skin lesions or history of melanoma. Concomitant use w/ a sympathomimetic amine or MAOI. Patients <25 yr. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, anorexia; orthostatic hypotension & cardiac arrhythmias; agitation, anxiety, euphoria, nightmares, insomnia, drowsiness & depression; abnormal involuntary dyskinesia.
