Mefenamic acid
Indications/Uses
Dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia. Rheumatic, muscular & traumatic pain. Headache, migraine, sciatica, toothache & fever.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >14 yr Initially 500 mg then 250 mg 6 hrly. Childn >6 mth 6.5 mg/kg 6-8 hrly. Max: 7 days. Dysmenorrhea/menorrhagia 500 mg 3 times daily for 5 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Peptic or intestinal ulceration, inflammatory bowel disease, renal or hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Asthma. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances & bleeding, peptic ulceration; headache, drowsiness, dizziness, nervousness; skin rashes, blood dyscrasias, nephropathy.
Drug Interactions
Oral anticoagulants.
