Amoxycillin trihydrate
Indications/Uses
Infections of the resp tract, GUT, ENT, skin & soft tissues, including typhoid & paratyphoid fever & gonorrhoea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250-500 mg 8 hrly. Childn 25-50 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses. Severe infection: Double dose.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Infectious mononucleosis.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances; allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, blood disorders, superinfection.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid prolongs plasma t½ of amoxicillin. Allopurinol increases incidence of skin rashes.
