Ondansetron HCl
Indications/Uses
Management of nausea & vomiting induced by cytotoxic chemo- & RT. Post-op nausea & vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Prevention & treatment of post-op nausea & vomiting 16 mg orally 1 hr before anesth or 8 mg orally 1 hr before anesth followed by 2 further doses of 8 mg at 8-hr intervals or 4 mg IM/slow IV as a single dose immediately before induction of anesth or post-op if patient experiences nausea &/or vomiting occurring shortly after surgery. Prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea & vomiting Adult Highly emetogenic chemotherapy: 8 mg as slow IV inj or 15-min infusion immediately before chemotherapy followed by 1 mg/hr continuous IV infusion for up to 24 hr or by a further two 8-mg doses by slow IV inj or 15-min infusion 4 hr apart. Either regimens is followed by 8 mg orally twice daily for up to 5 days. Less emetogenic chemotherapy: 8 mg slow IV in or 15-min immediately before chemotherapy or 8 mg 1-2 hr before chemotherapy, followed by 8 mg orally twice daily for up to 5 days. Childn >4 yr Syr 4 mg 12 hrly for 5 days. Inj 5 mg/m2 over 15 min immediately before chemotherapy followed by 4 mg orally 12 hrly for up to 5 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, headache, sedation & warm sensation in the head & epigastrium.
