6α-methylprednisolone
Indications/Uses
Inflammatory & allergic conditions, rheumatic disorders which respond to corticosteroid therapy, resp & dermatologic diseases, endocrine disorders, various autoimmune diseases, haematologic disorders, nephrotic syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 4-48 mg daily, then gradually reduced to the lowest effective dose for maintenance. Childn 0.8-1.1 mg/kg.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
TB, systemic fungal infection, herpes simplex, DM, varicella, osteoporosis.
Special Precautions
Stress, psychotic tendencies, renal insufficiency, HTN, peptic ulcer. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Na & fluid retention, impaired wound healing, carbohydrate metabolic disorders, muscle weakness, increased intraocular & ICP, osteoporosis.
Drug Interactions
Antidiabetics, NSAIDs, rifampicin, barbiturates.
