Acetylcysteine
Indications/Uses
Mucolytic, acute & chronic therapy in bronchial & pulmonary diseases w/ thick mucus eg, acute bronchitis, recurrent chronic & acute bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema, mucoviscidosis, bronchiectasis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥14 yr 1 cap 2-3 times daily. Childn 6-14 yr 1 cap twice daily. Mucoviscidosis Childn ≥6 yr 1 cap 3 times daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Monitor water/fluid intake. Patients w/ asthma. Not for long-term therapy. Co-administration w/ cough relievers (antitussives) may cause cessation of secretions. Concomitant use w/ tetracycline HCl & nitroglycerin. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Urticaria, angioedema, bronchospasm, nausea, vomiting, HTN, tachycardia, dizziness, fever.
Drug Interactions
Additive effects in the impairment of cognitive & gross motor function w/ oxycodone. May potentiate the effects of ethanol & lorazepam.
