Meloxicam
Indications/Uses
Short-term symptomatic therapy of acute exacerbation of OA, long-term symptomatic therapy of RA (chronic polyarthritis).
Dosage/Direction for Use
RA 15 mg daily, may be reduced to 7.5 mg/day. OA 7.5 mg daily, may be increased to 15 mg/day. Max: 15 mg/day. Dialysis patient w/ severe kidney failure Max: 7.5 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals if GI discomfort occurs.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ salicylic acid or other NSAIDs-induced asthma, nasal polyp, angioedema or urticaria. Active or recent GI ulceration or perforation, severe liver & non-dialysis kidney insufficiency, active bowel inflammatory disease, uncontrolled severe heart failure. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescent <15 yr.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ HTN, fluid retention or heart failure. History of peptic ulcer &/or GI bleeding.
Adverse Reactions
Anemia, headache, dizziness, drowsiness, increased BP, palpitation, heart failure, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain.
Drug Interactions
Prostaglandin synthetase inhibitor including salicylate & glucocorticoid in high dose, oral anticoagulant, lithium, MTX, contraceptive agents, diuretics, antihypertensive drugs.
