Colchicine
Indications/Uses
Acute gouty arthritis & prophylaxis of gout.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Acute gouty arthritis
Initially 0.5-1.2 mg, followed by 0.5 mg 2 hrly until symptoms subside or if nausea, vomiting, diarrhea occurs.
Prophylaxis of gout
0.5 mg once a wk to once daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe GI, urinary tract, & cardiac diseases. Blood dyscrasia. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ heart, liver, kidney & GI diseases. SC or IM inj is not recommended. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Peripheral neuritis; muscle weakness; nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or diarrhea; urticaria; aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis; dermatitis, purpura, alopecia; severe diarrhea; blood vessel damage, kidney damage associated w/ hematuria & oliguria.
