Ketoconazole
Indications/Uses
Gel/Cream: Treatment of tinea pedis, tinea corporis, tinea cruris caused by Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum. Treatment of tinea versicolor caused by Malassezia furfur (Pytirosporum orbiculare). Lotion: Treatment of Pityrosporum (yeast) infections eg, Pityriasis versicolor (in certain area), seborrheic dermatitis, Pityriasis capitis (dandruff).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Gel/Cream: Apply once daily, gently rub on skin. Scalp soln: Use to wash all hair & scalp, then leave it for 3-5 min before rinsing. Duration of treatment: Pityriasis versicolor Once daily for 5 days. Seborrheic dermatitis & Pityriasis capitis Twice a wk for 2-4 wk.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Discontinue treatment if any sensitization or irritation occurs. Childn. Scalp Soln: Not suggested to apply during long-term treatment of corticosteroids, as it may cause irritation. Should be given w/ 2 wk interval. 1st trimester of pregnancy, lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Irritation, itching & burning sensation.
