Amiodarone HCl
Indications/Uses
Tab: Recurrent ventricular fibrillation & recurrent hemodynamically unstable ventricular tachycardia. Inj: Severe rhythm disorders especially sinus supraventricular rhythm disorders & ventricular rhythm disorders.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Initially 1 tab 3 times daily for 1 wk, then reduce to 1 tab 2 times daily for 1 wk. Maintenance: 1 tab daily or less. Inj Initially 5 mg/kg by IV infusion over 20 min-2 hr. Infusion may be repeated 2-3 times/day. Maintenance: 10-20 mg/kg/24 hr by IV infusion.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take consistently w/ or w/o meals. Take w/ meals if high dose or to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Sinus bradycardia, SA block, AV block. Dysthyroidism. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Monitor BP, liver function & thyroid function regularly; history of thyroid dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Gl disturbances, headache, weakness, myalgia, tremor, ataxia, paresthesia, CHF, pulmonary inflammation. Reversible corneal microdeposits. In case of coloured halos, reduce dose.
Drug Interactions
Avoid concomitant administration w/ wave-burst arrhythmic drugs, β-blockers, stimulating laxatives, MAOIs or bradycardiac drugs. May increase serum digoxin conc. May inhibit metabolism of warfarin.
