Irbesartan
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 150 mg once daily. Max: 300 mg daily. Patient undergoing hemodialysis, elderly >75 yr Initially 75 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. 2nd & 3rd trimester of pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Concomitant use w/ lithium. Periodic monitoring of K & creatinine serum level is recommended. Renovascular HTN; hyperkalemia; aortic & mitral valve stenosis, obstructive hypertropic cardiomyopathy; primary aldosteronism; severe CHF or underlying renal disease.
Adverse Reactions
Resp infection, headache, musculoskeletal pain, dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, cough, nausea, vomiting, musculoskeletal trauma, chest pain, dyspepsia, heartburn, edema, abdominal pain, rash, tachycardia, anxiety, nervousness, UTI.
Drug Interactions
Increased hypotensive effect w/ other antihypertensives. Vol depletion & risk of hypotension w/ concomitant use of high dose diuretics. Increased serum K level w/ K supplements & K-sparing diuretics. Reversible increased conc & toxicity of lithium. Reduced effect w/ NSAIDs.
