Indications/Uses
Infection of the resp tract, renal & urinary tract, abdominal, bone & joints, skin, gonorrhea, bacterial septicaemia, pre-op surgical prophylaxis, meningitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 g IV daily as single or 2 divided doses. Uncomplicated gonorrhea 250 mg IM daily as single dose. Surgical prophylaxis 1 g IV as single dose over 30-90 min before surgery. Childn <12 yr Skin & soft tissue infections & other serious infections 50-75 mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses. Meningitis 100 mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Hepatic or renal dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Rarely, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, hypersensitivity reactions, headaches, hematologic disorder.
