Cefepime HCl

Adult ≥16 yr: Lower resp tract infection (pneumonia & bronchopneumonia), complicated upper & lower UTI, skin & skin structure infections, intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis, biliary tract infection), severe &/or complicated genital infections, septicemia, empiric treatment in febrile neutropenia. Childn 2 mth-16 yr: Severe pneumonia, empiric treatment in febrile neutropenia.

Adult Mild to moderate UTI 500 mg-1 g IM/IV. Mild to moderate infections except UTI 1 g IM/IV. Severe infections 1-2 g IV. Very severe or life-threatening infections 2 g IV. All doses given 12 hrly. Childn 2 mth-16 yr ≤40 kg Pneumonia 50 mg/kg 12 hrly for 7-10 days. Empiric treatment in febrile neutropenia 50 mg/kg 8 hrly for 7-10 days.

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or other β-lactams.

Hypersensitivity to penicillins. History of GI disturbances especially colitis. Impaired kidney function. Pregnancy & lactation. Infant <2 mth. Elderly.

Rash, pruritus, fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, gastric disturbances, chest pain, tachycardia, cough, sore throat, dyspnea, headache, dizziness, vaginitis, peripheral edema, back pain, encephalopathy, seizure, muscle cramp, kidney failure, anaphylactic reactions, transient leucopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, phlebitis & inflammation at inj site, urticaria, SJS, erythema multiforme, TEN, colitis, kidney dysfunction, toxic nephropathy, aplastic anemia, hemolytic anemia, bleeding, convulsion, impaired liver function including cholestasis, false +ve in urine glucose test result.

Ampicillin soln, metronidazole, vancomycin, gentamicin, tobramycin, netilmicin sulfate, aminophylline.

J01DE01 - cefepime ; Belongs to the class of fourth generation cephalosporins. Used in the systemic treatment of infections.
