Milrinone
Indications/Uses
Short-term therapy of heart failure unresponsive to conventional maintenance therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Loading dose: 50 mcg/kg administered slowly over 10 min. Maintenance dose: Min: 0.59 mg/kg/24 hr, standard: 0.77 mg/kg/24 hr, max: 1.13 mg/kg/24 hr. Doses are to be administered as continuous IV infusion.
Contraindications
Severe obstructive aortic or pulmonic valvular disease.
Special Precautions
Hypertrophic subaortic stenosis. Uncontrolled atrial flutter/fibrillation. Monitor BP, heart rate, fluid & electrolyte changes & renal function. Acute phase of post MI. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Ventricular arrhythmia & ectopic activity, sustained/non-sustained ventricular tachycardia, supraventricular arrhythmia, hypotension & angina/chest pain; headache; hypokalemia, tremor & thrombocytopenia.
Drug Interactions
Furosemide, bumetanide.
