Indications/Uses
Reflux oesophagitis; duodenal & gastric ulcer; NSAID-associated duodenal & gastric ulcer, gastroduodenal lesion. Regimen therapy in H. pylori infection. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Reflux oesophagitis 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Severe cases: 40 mg once daily for 8 wk. Duodenal ulcer 20 mg once daily for 2-4 wk. Poorly responsive patients 40 mg once daily for 4 wk. Prevention of relapse 10-20 mg once daily. Gastric ulcer 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Poorly responsive patients 40 mg once daily for 8 wk. Prevention of relapse 20-40 mg once daily. NSAID-associated duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, gastroduodenal lession 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Prevention: 20 mg once daily. Regimen therapy in H. pylori infection 40 mg once daily w/ amoxicillin 1.5 g daily in divided doses for 2 wk or 40 mg once daily w/ clarithromycin 500 mg 3 times daily for 2 wk. Long-term management: 10-20 mg once daily. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Initially 60 mg daily. Doses of 20-120 mg daily are usually adequate. Doses >80 mg daily should be divided into 2.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately before a meal.
Special Precautions
Exclude malignancy if gastric ulcer is suspected.
Adverse Reactions
Rarely GI disturbances, headache, skin rash.
Drug Interactions
Prolongs elimination of diazepam, warfarin & phenytoin.
