N-acetylcysteine
Indications/Uses
Voluntary or accidental paracetamol poisoning.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 150 mg/kg bolus dose for 60 min, at least 200 mL in adult & 50 mL in childn. Subsequent 50 mg/kg doses should be given at slow infusion rate 4 hrly for 72 hr.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Anaphylactic reactions may occur if directly administered at high dose & fast rate. Monitor patients w/ bronchial asthma or history of asthma for occurrence of bronchospasm.
Adverse Reactions
Urticaria, angioedema, bronchospasm, nausea, vomiting, HTN, tachycardia, dizziness & fever.
