Trihexyphenidyl HCl
Indications/Uses
Adjunct for all forms of parkinsonism. Control of extrapyramidal symptoms due to drug therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Idiopathic & post-encephalitic parkinsonism 1 mg on 1st day, then increased to 2 mg 2-3 times daily during 3-5 days until therapeutic dosage is reached. Post-encephalitic parkinsonism 12-15 mg daily. Drug-induced parkinsonism Total daily dosage: 5-15 mg, advisable to initiate at 1 mg/dose.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Best taken w/ meals. Take before meals if dry mouth occurs, after meals if drooling/nausea occurs. Take at the same time each day.
Special Precautions
Coronary, HTN, glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy. Monitor IOP. Hepatic & renal disease.
Adverse Reactions
Dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, mild nausea or nervousness, constipation, urinary retention, tachycardia, pupil dilatation, raised IOP, headache.
Drug Interactions
Potentiate actions w/ other adrenergic agent.
