Ornithine aspartate
Indications/Uses
Reduction of plasma ammonia level in condition of hyperammonemia as a result of acute & chronic liver disease eg, liver cirrhosis, fatty liver, hepatitis. Precoma in hepatic encephalopathy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Max: 4 amp daily. Precoma or coma Max: 8 amp in 24 hr. For venous tolerability, no >6 amp dissolved per 500 mL infusion.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe renal impairment.
Special Precautions
Monitor serum & urine urea level at high dose of infusion. Adjust infusion rate if liver function is substantially impaired. May impair ability to drive & use machines. Avoid during pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, burning sensation, palpitation.
