Clobetasol propionate
Indications/Uses
Short-course treatment of resistant dermatoses eg, psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis), recalcitrant eczema, lichen planus, discoid lupus erythematosus & other conditions which do not respond satisfactorily to less active steroids.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply 1-2 times daily into the affected area.
Contraindications
Untreated cutaneous infections, rosacea, acne vulgaris, pruritus w/o inflammation, perianal & genital pruritus, perioral dermatitis. Childn <1 yr.
Special Precautions
Local hypersensitivity to steroids. Discontinue gradually by reducing frequency of usage. Avoid prolonged use, especially in infant & childn & those w/ adrenal suppression; patients w/ psoriasis. Discontinue in case of exacerbation of infection; avoid application on the face due to possibility of atrophic changes, but if it must be used, apply for no more than 5 days. Avoid contact w/ eyes. Long-term continuous therapy. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Pruritus, local skin burning/pain.
Drug Interactions
CYP3A4 inhibitor eg, ritonavir & itraconazole.
