FUSIPAR cream: Each gram of cream contains Fusidic acid 20 mg.
FUSIPAR ointment: Each gram of ointment contains Sodium fusidate 20 mg.
Fusidic acid and its salt exert antibacterial activity against most gram positive organisms; particularly Staphylococcus aureus topically. They are also effective to Streptococcus, Neisseria, Haemophillus, Moraxella, and Corynebacteria.
For skin infection due to Staphylococcus or other Fusidic acid-sensitive organisms; the most important indications being: impetigo, foliculitis, furunculosis, sycosis barbae, hidradenitis axillaries, abscess, paronychia, and erythrasma.
For open lesions : After washing, apply to the affected area three to four times daily or as directed by the doctor or pharmacist.
For occlusive lesions : Apply frequently. Generally for a period of 7 days with or without covering dressing.
Overdosage has not been known to occur during topical therapy with Fusidic acid.
Known hypersensitivity to Fusidic acid and its salts.
Infection due to non-sensitive organisms against Fusidic acid especially Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Use of topical antibiotics occasionally allows overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. If this occurs, discontinue administration and appropriate therapy instituted.
If irritation/sensitization developed, treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted.
Fusidic acid topical preparations should not be used in or near the eyes because of the possibility of conjunctival irritation.
Safety in the treatment of infection during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. If administration to pregnant or breast feeding patients is considered necessary, its potential benefit should be weighed against the possible hazards to the fetus and baby. If possible, avoid usage in final stage of pregnancy.
Can cause kernicterus when given to preterm.
Hypersensitivity reactions in the form of rashes and irritation.
No synergy has been demonstrated in vitro in most study between Fusidic acid and Rifampicin or Vancomycin and antagonism of the effect of Ciprofloxacin has been reported.
Interaction with the Penicillins are complex, with either antagonism of the effect of one or both agents, or lack of any effect. However, the combination of an anti-Staphylococcal Penicillin with Fusidic acid may prevent the emergence of Fusidic acid resistance Staphylococcal mutants, and such combination may be clinically effective.
D06AX01 - fusidic acid ; Belongs to the class of other topical antibiotics used in the treatment of dermatological diseases.
