Cefepime
Indications/Uses
Adult: Lower resp tract infection (pneumonia, bronchopneumonia), complicated upper & lower UTI (pyelonephritis), skin & soft tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis, biliary tract infections), severe or complicated gynecology infections, septicemia, empiric therapy in febrile neutropenia. Childn (2 mth–16 yr): Severe pneumonia, empiric therapy in febrile neutropenia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Mild to moderate UTI 500 mg to 1 g IV or IM inj 12 hrly. Other mild to moderate infections 1 g IV or IM inj 12 hrly. Childn 2 mth-16 yr Pneumonia, empiric therapy in febrile neutropenia 50 mg/kg/dose 12 hrly (pneumonia) or 8 hrly (febrile neutropenia) for 7-10 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, penicillin, other β-lactam.
Special Precautions
History of allergy. Impaired kidney function. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Rash, pruritus, urticaria, nausea, vomiting, oral moniliasis, diarrhea, colitis (including pseudomembranous colitis), headache, fever, vaginitis, erythema.
Drug Interactions
Cephalosporins, penicillin, other β-lactam.
