Cefixime
Indications/Uses
Uncomplicated UTI, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute bronchitis, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap Adult & childn >30 kg 50-100 mg twice daily. More severe or intractable infections May be increased to 200 mg twice daily. Uncomplicated cervical/urethral gonorrhea 400 mg as a single dose. Dry syr Childn 1.5-3 mg/kg twice daily. More severe or intractable infections 6 mg/kg twice daily. Typhoid fever 10-15 mg/kg/day for 2 wk.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of shock due to cefixime. Childn <6 mth.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Personal or familial history of allergy. Serious renal dysfunction, poor oral nutrition; patients on parenteral nutrition. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly & debilitated patients.
Adverse Reactions
Shock, hypersensitivity, hematologic & GI disorders, vit K deficiency.
