Indications/Uses
Treatment of upper & lower resp tract infections, peritonitis, cholecystitis, cholangitis & other intra-abdominal infections, septicemia, meningitis, skin & soft tissue infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, gonorrhea & other infections of the genital tract. Prophylaxis of post-op infections in patients undergoing abdominal & gynecologic surgery, CV & orthopedic surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 2-4 g daily IM/IV in 2 divided doses. The dose may be increased to 8-16 g daily in severe infections. Childn >1 mth 100-150 mg/kg/day in 2-3 divided doses.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins, hepatic dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation. Premature infants & neonates.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions, hematological reactions, transient elevations of liver enzymes, GI disturbances, local inj site reactions.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol.
