Fenofibrate
Indications/Uses
Hypercholesterolemia (type IIa) & endogenous hypertriglyceridemia either isolated (type IV) or associated (types IIb & III) when diet alone is insufficient.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 cap once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Known hypersensitivity or phototoxic reaction during treatment w/ fibrates or ketoprofen. Gallbladder disorder. Chronic or acute pancreatitis excluding acute pancreatitis due to hypertriglyceridemia. Renal & hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Drug Interactions
Reduce anticoagulant dose to maintain the prothrombin at the desired level & to prevent bleeding complications. Delay intake of fenofibrate by at least 2 hr in the event of concurrent therapy w/ resins. Concomitant use of fibric acid derivatives w/ HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors may predispose patients to myopathy. Oral hypoglycemics.
