Ketorolac tromethamine
Indications/Uses
Tab: Short-term management of moderate post-op pain. Inj: Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-op pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab 10 mg 4-6 hrly. Max: 40 mg/day. Inj 10 mg followed by 10-30 mg 4-6 hrly. Max: 90 mg/day. Elderly, patient w/ renal function impairment, patient <50 kg Max: 60 mg. Max duration of treatment: 2 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Aspirin- or NSAID-induced allergy. Active peptic ulcer, suspected or confirmed CV bleeding, hemorrhagic diatheses including coagulation disorders, complete or partial nasal polyp syndrome, angioedema or bronchospasm; hypovolemia or dehydration, moderate or severe renal impairment; history of asthma, SJS or vesicular bulbous rash. Patients receiving NSAIDs, aminosalicylic acid, probenecid, lithium salts, anticoagulants including low dose of heparin. Prophylactic administration before major surgery or intra-op when hemostasis is critical due to increased risk of bleeding. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <16 yr.
Special Precautions
History of GI disease or asthma; cardiac decompensation, HTN or similar conditions.
Adverse Reactions
GI, CNS, musculoskeletal system, urinary tract, kidney, CV or hematological, resp system & skin disturbances; hypersensitivity reactions, bleeding, abnormal LFT, asthenia, edema, pain at inj site, wt gain, hepatitis, liver failure.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid, oxpentifylline, lithium, NSAID, ACE inhibitors, MTX.
