TreatmentAdult & childn >12 yr 100 mL IV 8 hrly. Childn <12 yr 7.5 mg/kg. PreventionAdult & childn >12 yr 100 mL IV infusion. Childn <12 yr 7.5 mg/kg IV 8 hrly. Infusion should be infused IV as a single dose at a rate of 5 mL/min.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to metronidazole & other nitroimidazoles. 1st trimester of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Blood dyscrasias, active CNS disease, hepatic & renal failure.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, headache, ataxia, reversible neutropenia, erythematous rash & pruritus, local reactions, darkening of urine.
