Bromhexine HCl
Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp tract condition associated w/ retention of viscid mucoid secretion. Inj: Secretolytic therapy in acute & chronic bronchopulmonary disease associated w/ abnormal mucus secretion & impaired mucus transport.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult 1 tab, childn 6-12 yr ½ tab, 1-5 yr ¼ tab. To be taken 3-4 times daily. Syr Adult 10 mL, childn 6-12 yr 5 mL. To be taken 3-4 times daily. Childn 1-5 yr 5 mL 2-3 times daily, <1 yr 2.5 mL 2 times daily. Inj Severe cases as well as before & after surgical intervention 1 amp IV (2-3 min) 2-3 times daily. Given as an IV infusion w/ glucose, laevulose, physiological saline or Ringer's soln.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Gastric ulceration. New skin or mucosal lesion. Pregnancy (1st trimester) & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Occasionally, GI effects. Inj: Allergic reactions including skin rashes, urticaria, bronchospasm, angioedema, anaphylaxis, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea & upper abdominal pain.
Drug Interactions
Amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin & doxycycline.
