Famotidine
Indications/Uses
Duodenal ulcer. Pathological hypersecretory conditons eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, multiple endocrine adenomas.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Duodenal ulcer Acute therapy: 40 mg at bedtime or 20 mg 2 times daily. Usually treatment for 4 wk is sufficient. Maintenance therapy: 20 mg at bedtime. Pathological hypersecretory conditions eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, multiple endocrine adenomas 20 mg 6 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Severe renal insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Occasionally fever, orbital edema because of hypersensitivity reaction, chest tightness, contusions or bleeding, palpitations & asthenia. Headache, dizziness, constipation, diarrhea, thrombocytopenia & arthralgia.
