Baclofen
Indications/Uses
Skeletal muscle capacity in multiple sclerosis. Spastic conditions in medulla spinalis due to infection w/ degeneration, trauma, neoplastic or unknown conditions. Muscle spasm due to cerebral causes.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Individualized dosage. Titration: 5 mg 3 times daily for 3 days, 10 mg 3 times daily for 3 days, 15 mg 3 times daily for 3 days, 20 mg 3 times daily for 3 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Peptic ulcer.
Special Precautions
Schizophrenia; spastic patients w/ epilepsy; patients w/ or w/o peptic ulcer history; cerebrovascular, resp or hepatic patients; cerebrovascular disease, resp failure; urinary tract abnormalities. Avoid sudden discontinuation of therapy. Long-term use. Renal disorders. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness; nausea; dry mouth; resp depression; decreased cerebrovascular fungal.
Drug Interactions
CNS depression agents; TCAs; antihypertensives; l-dopa/dopa decarboxylase inhibitor (carbidopa); reducing agents for decreased renal function; lithium.
