Domperidone
Indications/Uses
Dyspepsia combined w/ slow GI evacuation or esophageal reflux w/ epigastric abdominal heaviness or flatulence after meals; nausea & vomiting; hiccups of various causes.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Functional dyspepsia Adult 10 mg. Childn 0.25 mg/kg. To be taken 3 times daily. Nausea & vomiting Adult 10-20 mg. Childn 0.25-0.5 mg/kg. To be taken 3-4 times daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 15-30 min before meals & at bedtime.
Contraindications
Prolactinoma; condition which gastric motility may be harmed eg, bleeding, mechanical obstruction or GI perforation.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation. Infant <1 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Rarely, mild abdominal cramps.
Drug Interactions
Antagonized by anticholinergics; antacids or antisecretory agents should be taken after meals when used w/ DOM.
