Lidocaine 25 mg, prilocaine 25 mg
Indications/Uses
Topical anesth in connection w/ needle insertion eg, IV catheters or blood sampling, superficial surgical procedure.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply thick layer of cream to the skin, under an occlusive dressing. Adult Approx 1.5 g/10 cm2. Minor procedures eg, needle insertion & surgical treatment of localized lesions 2 g for a min of 1 hr. Dermal procedures on larger areas eg, split skin grafting 1.5-2 g/10 cm2 for min 2 hr. Childn 6-11 yr Up to 20 g/200 cm2, 1-5 yr up to 10/100 cm2, 3-12 mth Total dose should not exceed 2 g and not >16 cm2 skin area. Application time: At least 1 hr & not >3 hr.
Contraindications
Congenital or idiopathic methemoglobinemia. Premature infant (<37 wk).
Special Precautions
Application to open wounds or mucous membrane; atopic dermatitis; application to genital mucosa of childn or around the eyes; instillation in the middle ear; G6PD deficiency. Patient under antiarrhythmic treatment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Skin sensation ie, initial burning or itching sensation at the application site.
Drug Interactions
Increased risk of methemoglobinemia w/ sulphonamides; antiarrhythmic drugs eg, mexiletine, flecainide.
