Mefenamic acid
Indications/Uses
Moderate acute or chronic pain, headache, muscle pain, traumatic pain (due to extraction, surgery, labour). To relieve pain of toothache & post-dental extraction, dysmenorrhea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >14 yr Initially 500 mg followed by 250 mg 6 hrly. Duration of treatment should not exceed 7 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ or immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Gastric or peptic ulcer, diarrhea, impaired liver & kidney function.
Special Precautions
May cause cross-sensitivity in patients w/ bronchospasm, allergic rhinitis or urticaria due to NSAID. Prolonged or excessive usage. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <14 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Gastric irritation, intestinal colic, diarrhea; rash, thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia, agranulocytosis, gastric bleeding; dyspepsia, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, headache, drowsiness, dizziness, vertigo, constipation, megaloblastic anemia.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin.
